Last week I was walking around Munich. While there, the winter cold, the lack of color in the buildings, everyone wearing nothing but black, was giving me an idea of high contrast and harsh definition for a story I’m working on. You never know what will click. As you can see in the pictures, there is color in the city. Mostly what I saw was more monochrome, but I like colorful photos, so that’s what I made.
There are impressions. There are feelings. Moments take hold. I asked myself, is there a spirit to this place? Is there a character to these people? I don’t have an answer, but I thought about the primary city in my stories, and wanted to build on the identity of that place. The look and feel of a geographical location is a powerful force that resides in the background, while we do things in and around it. It’s ever present, but more like a shadow, than a focus. Munich got me to thinking about that.
